1	2004	26 Dec 2004: Indian Ocean Tsunami, killing about 230,000 people in eleven countries, including about 18,000 from India. The tsunami was triggered due to an earthquake of magnitude ~9.1 in the Indian Ocean, with an epicentre off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia.
2	2008	12 Oct 2008: Sr. Alphonsa canonized as Saint by Pope Benedict XVI at Vatican. St. Alphonsa from Bharananganam, Kottayam became the second person of Indian origin (first person with both parents Indians) to be canonized as saint by the Catholic Church.
