Mathai Thomman Chengalathuparambil (1875-1960) and his brother Varkey Thomman Chengalathuparambil (1877-1960) with their mother Anna moved to live at Chengalam, near Elangulam. They had their houses nearby. The brothers passed away the same day on the 4th of January 1960. Mathai died in the morning and Varkey in the evening. The next day both were buried at St. Antony's Church, Chengalam, Kottayam. Mathai's sons Joseph Mathai Chengalathuparambil moved to Ranni, Pathanamthitta and Thomas Mathai Chengalathuparambil moved to Konni, Pathanamthitta later.
