door knobs of italy
One of our favorite themes for photography in Italy are these fabulous door knobs. There are a lot of old buildings in Italy, from the ancient to the medieval. Completely new buildings are lesser than you expect and what they usually do here is to repair and modernize old buildings, especially the interiors, while keeping the aesthetically pleasing “ruined” and “old” exteriors.
Many of the old doors in these buildings are huge, and the door knobs and handles have intricate designs on them.

Hi rocksea!
I am back!

I told u i shall be writing again, I have created my new blog, do visit it http://myworldmyperception.blogspot.com
Good to come back to ur blog today, I had appreciated ur door knob pics that time, but i cannot see my comment here. anyways, good work. will write more later. bye.
First one is superb…. have to check out where i can get these kinda artistic knobs in India….
Nice ones.. liked the 3rd 😉
I like the first. I really like the second. The third one confuses me.
Very interesting! The knobs in the doors of forts of Rajasthan too have designs of the traditional type.
Thanks for the information, Indrani. I guess there are only few structures like those forts which preserve such traditional door knobs in India.
Rocksea, thanks a TON for identifying my alien! I have an ETA on my post and a link to your Golden Tortoise Beetle page now. I’ve never seen the green one…so beautiful! Thank you once again!!
Kanak, It is nice to see similar species at both the ends. I have seen the green one quite a number of times. There is a chance that you would also see them!
Roxy
i would feel weird grabbing the nekkid woman doorknob, it’s so…. so….. you know 🙂
it seems to be a nekkid angel 😀 don’t miss your chance!!
andy, abhilash, deeps and kanak, 😀
They are indeed beautiful! My sons would love the lions! Both of them are Leos.
classic!
the door knobs look superb…
They really have creative works…
Wow those are beautiful pieces of art to be sure! You dont see things like that around here.
thanks joshi, mridula and solilo, for the comments 🙂
Some gorgeous door knobs.
wow ! of all places, art in a door knob ! lovely…It surely gives me ideas for my new home 🙂
will knock on your door or ring the tinkerbells 😉
Good ones ! My pick is the third one !
Yes as somebody mentioned , such door knobs and even locks are available from the past of India too … I have seen them in some museums can’t recollect where …
yes I guess so, and there are many tribal made door handles which are promoted on tourism basis these days. but i haven’t yet found such “live” traditional door knobs/handles in india…
Hi,
One exquisite door knocker/knob after another..Real visual treat for me ’cause have always been enamoured by old world architecture. Thanks..
You also inspire me to start a photoblog. (Not that I can make such interesting contributions as yours) ..
🙂
HolyAsh
hehe 😀 am happy to be an inspiration. try clicking and sharing a few shots which seems interesting to you 🙂
thanks for the comments holyAsh.
Not only in Italy, they are famous in many countries of Europe. Gives a nice feeling. 🙂
And they are available in India too. I bought 2 for my house.
the ones you bought, are they indigenous to any particular region in india?
“aesthetically pleasing “ruined†and “old†exteriors” – that is so true. Ruins have a certain charm to them!
And the doorknobs are lovely.. My pick – the first one. Totally awesome, the color and the design.
oh neelima, i love the tribal made doorhandles which you had photographed from bastar, much more 🙂 they are so original
Not just in Italy, this kind of artistic handles are very much available in India too! I find the ones in rural india to be more thoughtful and represent the cultural heritage.
Yes mohan, rural india has a lot of beautiful, artistic door handles. The person who commented just below yours, neelima, had photographed and posted a collection of door handles made by tribal folks.
Things that we love to photograph! Enjoyed your pictures.
the second one looks something really interesting!
they are lovely .. but they dont do it anymore this way..
Most of the European cities have managed to keep their old buildings intact..nd hence the tourists from cities choking with skyscrapers are rushing to enjoy this…
In Bologna, where I live, and in many other cities here, it is rare to find a modern building! I find that a boon, and feel happy about it 🙂
I loved the lion one, my bro would love it more as he is a leo…wish Indians could learn something from the Italians…many archaic builiding are pulled down to construct make way for concrete jungles and weird statues 🙁
Have a wonderful week ahead
Ashes
Yes Ashes, we sure had a lot of architectural and traditional wonders, but on the road to fast paced modernization, we missed to preserve many. I guess most of it happened in a few recent decades.
